Peter Rutter MS FRCS

Training Prior to being a consultant I had been the Senior Registrar in the internationally renowned Vascular Unit at St Mary’s Hospital Paddington. I studied vein surgery under John Hobbs who was one of the leading names in vein surgery in the world.
Current Position I took up the post of Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Wexham Park and Heatherwood in 1992 and have been the Director of Surgery at Wexham Park for 6 years.
Research and development I have performed varicose veins surgery for over 30 years but introduced Doppler Ultrasound investigation in 1994 and then keyhole (Trivex) surgery in the late 90s. I was a member of the small group of surgeons who introduced the minimally invasive Foam Doppler Guided sclerotherapy to this country in the inaugural ‘Provensis’ Study which compared foam treatment with surgery. I was asked by Provensis to examine the success of foam treatment at 2 years after treatment. After training in America I was the first surgeon in the country to perform VNUS under local anaesthetic in the UK. Like Andrew I perform all the modern treatments for varicose veins, including VNUS, Laser (VLT), Foam and keyhole surgery.
