PATIENTS' EXPERIENCES

VNUS Patients Diaries:

Louise
10th May 2007
"Having VNUS surgery today and feeling a bit nervous. When I am in the treatment room everyone is brilliant at making me feel relaxed - in fact it was quite a laugh, I only had a little bit of sedation (one glass of gin) as they say, but for me it didn't feel any different. The surgery was performed and although I had a little pain on my right leg it was nothing that a bit of breathing couldn't handle, my left leg I couldn't feel any pain at all. The surgery was not at all what I expected, I expected it to be a lot worse. Mr Rutter, Kay and their team where brilliant!"
11th May
"Slept well last night no pain, woke about 2.45am to go to the ladies, although I was in no pain my left leg kept giving way, waiting to speak to Mr Rutter. The collapse of the leg was due to bandages being too tight and the anesthetic in my leg had not worn off."
12th May
"Still brilliant no pain at all and so much better just wearing the stockings, they are really not that bad even though I would not like to wear them all the time."
Ruth
"I had VNUS and hooking on the 11th May and found it to be a positive experience. Although I built it up to be something it was not, the nurses at Heatherwood were able to put me at ease as I walked into the treatment room. The procedure was relatively painless although I did have sedation, I was aware of what was happening but it was not uncomfortable. Two weeks on, I have already seen the results. The bruising has gone down and the veins have disappeared from my calves. The stockings are not ghastly, I wouldn't choose to wear them but I will wear anything to ensure that the procedure lasts. Dr Rutter and his team have given me a new lease of life. I will be wearing all the clothes that I have hidden away from to show off my newly revamped legs. I would recommend this procedure to anyone with varicose veins, I have had no real discomfort, I have had no time off work and normal life has not been affected. I would like to thank everyone involved in the treatment, especially Kay and all the nurses. They were a pleasure to meet and their knowledge and reassurance made the whole procedure quite pleasurable."
